About

WELCOME to the Blog for the Pendle Radicals project. Dip in, and join us on a four year journey of discovery…

Pendle Radicals explores the stories of the change makers, independent thinkers and nonconformists drawn to the inspiring landscape around Pendle Hill.

In this Blog, the contributors to Pendle Radicals will explore some of these stories. From George Fox, founder of the Quakers, having his vision at the summit in 1652… Through social reformers, radical politicians, nonconformist preachers, leaders of the fight for women’s rights and some cultural iconoclasts of the 20th Century. What is it about this magical place that inspired so many extraordinary individuals?

Over four years, we will investigate their stories, share what we find, commission new works of art and celebrate these heroes of Pennine Lancashire. This is a research-led project that relies on an enthusiastic team of volunteers. If something here inspires you to join us, we’d love to hear from you. Come and join us!

Pendle Radicals is led by Mid Pennine Arts, and is part of the Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership, made possible by generous support from National Lottery Heritage Fund and other funders.
